Giving back to our community and those less fortunate than us is something very close to our hearts and as a Partner Practice of St. James’s Place Wealth Management we are completely supported in our charitable activity as part of the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation. Through the Foundation, we are able to support lots of smaller charities every year and we’re so proud of the work it does.
Most recently, The Foundation organised a challenge; to cycle from Vienna to Prague and raise as much money for charity in the process. Our colleague at SLD Wealth, Craig Williams bravely took on this challenge without hesitation and quite frankly, he made the 239 mile journey look easy!
Craig told us: "I would not normally take part in an organised charity ride as I am conscious of the funds raised going to pay directors wages. However, as every pound raised was matched by the St. James’s Place Foundation and everyone at The Foundation is a volunteer, I was happy to enter the event."
The route was absolutely stunning; wide open pastureland with rolling fields as far as the eye could see and there was very little traffic. A highlight was crossing over the boarder for Austria into the Czech Republic. Within a mile it was like going back 10-20 years. Riding through the rolling hills of the Czech Republic was incredible. Occasionally you would have wild deer running alongside you, sometimes darting out in front of you.
The approach towards Prague was gorgeous, dropping in to and ascending out of lush green, steep picturesque valleys with little traffic with the fresh scent of pine trees. Prague itself was obviously a different experience with the hustle and bustle of a large city. We reminded ourselves to look up and to take in the gothic architecture from time to time whilst dodging tram lines and the occasional tram.
The best thing about the trip was the company and the others taking part. Riding along in our group of about 8 to 10 like-minded individuals all brought together with the simplest of goals. To raise some funds for a fantastic cause and to have some fun along the way. Would I do it again?...Definitely!
We are so proud of Craig’s efforts and even more so because the group collectively raised over £280,000 for this fantastic cause. Well done Craig!
