Sustainable and Responsible Investing

Responsible Investing: Definitions

In addition to preserving or growing wealth, many of our clients are concerned about the ethical impact of their investments. The impact we have as individuals on society and the environment has probably never been greater than it is today, and it’s true to say that we have more ability to influence and change our impact than ever before.

We recognise that ‘Responsible Investing’ and ‘Ethical Investing’ are broad concepts with no definitive definition. Ethical and environmental issues are of course wide ranging and long standing. Some issues are visible, and others such as modern-day slavery, are not. In addition, as scientific evidence has built around the contribution of human activity to climate change, environmental concerns have been pushed into the public arena and up the political agenda. Ethical investing is concerned with both traditional and modern Ethical and Environmental challenges.

It is our belief that a responsible investing policy should consider the following factors: Integration of Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance Issues (ESG) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into the investment process.

Ethical Portfolios

As a company, we emphasise the principles of responsible investing to our clients. Our advisers are aware of the major environmental, social and governance issues surrounding the businesses invested in and how our clients’ money is run.

St. James's Place continually look at ways to develop and enhance their approach to responsible investment and work closely with their external fund managers to encourage and support the consideration of responsible investing as an integrated element of the investment process.

Fund Management

Rowan Dartington is the discretionary fund management and stockbroking arm of St. James's Place, and provides a range of additional, complementary wealth management services.

Working together with Rowan Dartington, we can create and manage a bespoke share portfolio designed to match your risk profile and meet specific investment needs and Ethical preferences.

In order to accommodate the views of our clients’ and invest in line with their values we take time to understand which options best suit their Ethical stand point. We adopt a pragmatic approach to a subject which is complex at both the personal and practical level.

In some cases, clients may have a strong view they wish to be reflected in their portfolio and we can look to accommodate this subject to a minimum of £750k investment.

Should you wish to discuss the above or any of our other services in more detail, please contact us.
